Hey guys! Are you looking for new books for the holidays? If so, then here’s an audiobook treat for you! Today I’m welcoming over Jaye L. Knight, author of the Ilyon Chronicles series, to present to you her new audiobook: Resistance. If you’re curious about the making of audiobooks, I took the opportunity to interview her about the process here.
(Book links are at the end of the post)
Hi Jaye! So tell us, how did you discover your narrator for Resistance?
It actually happened a couple of years ago. I had been thinking about finding a male narrator for the series, so I was on Amazon’s audiobook creation website, ACX, going through samples. Lance’s voice grabbed me right away. I saved his profile to a bookmark and there it sat until I finally contacted him this past summer.
What was the process like, bringing your book out of print form and into audio form?
It’s a pretty straightforward process, though time-consuming. Lance is really easy to work with. We had an initial phone call to discuss what I was looking for with the book, but I left it mostly in his hands. As a narrator, he’s much more familiar with audiobooks than I am since I don’t listen to many.
I hear you. Sometimes it’s best to just trust that they know what they’re doing, and leave it to them! What advice would you give to writers and authors who are hoping to one day make an audiobook?
I definitely recommend checking out ACX. I don’t particularly like being at Amazon’s mercy, but it does make the process pretty simple. Do as I did and listen to samples from different narrators. I probably listened to over a hundred different ones, but kept going back to Lance.
Will all of the Ilyon Chronicles books become audiobooks?
That’s the plan! 🙂 I’ve already been in contact with Lance about starting The King’s Scrolls around the end of the year as soon as his schedule allows.
Thank you for dropping by the blog, Jaye! And congrats on the Resistance audiobook!
Thanks so much for having me!
About the Book
“Don’t you know? Animals like you have no soul.”
Could God ever love a half-blood all of society looks upon with such fear and disdain? Jace once believed so, but when a tragic loss shatters the only peace he’s ever known, his faith crumbles as the nagging doubts he’s tried to put behind him descend on his grieving heart. With them come the haunting memories of the bloodstained past he longs to forget, but can never escape.
Taken from home at a young age and raised to serve the emperor, Kyrin Altair lives every day under a dangerous pretense of loyalty. After her unique observation skills and perfect memory place her into direct service to the emperor, Kyrin finds herself in further jeopardy as it becomes increasingly difficult to hide her belief in Elôm, the one true God.
Following the emperor’s declaration to enforce the worship of false gods under the penalty of death, many lives are endangered. But there are those willing to risk everything to take a stand and offer aid to the persecuted. With their lives traveling paths they never could have imagined, Jace and Kyrin must fight to overcome their own fears and conflicts with society as they become part of the resistance.
