River Vampire Fish, Yes it’s real #AtoZChallenge

This is part of the A-to-Z blog challenge for April. My theme is legends and legendary creatures (both real and fiction). I hope you enjoy following along!

Vampire Fish

It’s official name is Payara, but many like to refer to it as a vampire fish because of…well, I think it’s pretty obvious. 😉

This predatory fish is found in the Amazon Basin. You can see the two long fangs protruding from its lower jaw: These fangs can be 4-6 inches long and are kept in pockets in the skull. Payaras themselves can reach a length of 4 ft and a weight of 17.8 kg (39 lb).
