A creature said to exist in the Gobi Desert, it’s described as a bright red worm, between 2-5 feet long. Some say it attacks by spewing out an acid that, on contact, will turn anything it touches yellow and corroded, able to kill a person. While others say it kills at a distance through an electric discharge.

Czech cryptozoologist Ivan Mackerle described this worm creature:

“A sausage-like worm thick as a man’s arm, resembling the intestine of cattle. Its skin serves as an exoskeleton, molting whenever hurt. Its tail is short, as if it were cut off, but not tapered. It is difficult to tell its head from its tail because it has no visible eyes, nostrils or mouth. Its colour is dark red, like blood…”

Wow, spewing yellow acid and sending out electrical discharges. That is quite a fierce worm! I’m glad I was never mean to worms as a kid. 😉

The Mongolian locals believe that touching any part of the worm will cause instant death or tremendous pain. They say the worm lives underground, hibernating most of the year except for June and July, and most often comes to the surface when it rains.

This is a worm I wouldn’t want to bother! Are you brave enough to try?

  1. I wasn’t mean to worms, I made sure they did not drown or burn by placing them at a better spot. If it was very sunny I would try to find some nice soil in the shade. 🙂

  2. I found worms too disgusting as a kid to be mean to them. A bit like now, my motto is, I’l stay away from you if you stay away from me. So you could say we have a reciprocal relationship. 🙂 I think I’ll apply it to this giant one as well.

  3. Does catching them to use as bait (for fishing) count as mean? I might be in trouble . . .
    Regardless, I don’t think I’d want to get too close to anything that gross looking. I’ll keep my distance and take pictures, thankyouverymuch.

  6. I think my stomach turned upside-down a few times while reading this… :S

    And… I don’t think I was ever cruel to worms when I was younger… I think…? I hope not now. *runs under a couch and hides*

    • Agreed, this one gives many monsters a run-for-their-money, so to speak!
      Haha, I hope I haven’t been mean to any either… Otherwise I’ll be hiding behind that couch with you. *shudders* (or maybe somewhere higher above ground?)
