My haikus for RonovanWrites Weekly Haiku Challenge–a fun activity and contest that is open for everyone to participate, and helps keep our creative writer’s mind active! This week’s words are: Crane & Gold.
“Beyond”
The crane’s curved wings beat,
Into the golden sunset,
I am led beyond.

“Source of Greed”
Power, desire,
He cranes his neck to the gold,
Ensnared by its charm.

The crane’s curved wings beat, Into the golden sunset,
Into the golden sunset, I am led beyond.

These two are both powerful in different ways. The first has a wonderful image at the end. The second has a dark feeling. But there’s truth in it, and that saddens me.

Thank you, phoenixgrey. I imagine myself in the first one, going into the sunset; gold sunsets are so beautiful. But yes, the second one is sad how true it is, and is a reminder to keep away from greed.

I love “Beyond.” It’s peaceful and powerful, especially in its imagery, like Phoenix said. I wanted to travel with the crane to wherever it was going.
And, um, I thought of Thorin Oakenshield when I read the second haiku. *blushes*

Thank you, Sara. I pictured myself as the crane in a way, flying off into the sunset, off into whatever may await in the beyond. I’m glad you could feel that same feeling too.
Thorin Oakenshield, that fits perfectly! I love that idea! I must say though, you’ve had Thorin on the mind quite a bit lately, hmm? 😉

You know what else the first poem reminded me of, besides the crane? Sailing off to Valinor. 🙂 I forgot to mention that the first time around.
“I must say though, you’ve had Thorin on the mind quite a bit lately, hmm? ;)”
I… have? (*blinks*) Where else have I talked about him recently? (Sorry, my memory’s a bit shot. It’s been a stressful past few days offline.)

Ah, Valinor, that is a lovely image too!
Oh I think it was comments on Rebekah’s blog. Which makes sense, as her posts are about books and characters. 🙂

Beyond reminds me of an old sliding door painting I saw in a temple around here a while back. Lovely imagery!

A sliding door painting? That sounds really cool! Was it like a secret passageway?
Thank you, and thanks for reading! 🙂

No, haha. Japanese traditional doors slide on wooden tracks, instead of western hinges. ☺ they’re all very pretty.

Oh, haha, I guess I had the wrong idea there. 🙂 It would take me a while to get used to doors sliding open. My clumsy self would probably knock them down trying to open them, haha.

Oh, kids barrel into them all the time. XD

Haha, hopefully those doors are sturdy enough. 😀
